If you lead an organization and want to stabilize, grow, or successfully transition, it’s essential to have a clear vision that your team shares. In this article, I encourage you to evaluate the future vision of your organization.
Gino Wickman, author of Traction, developed the Vision/Traction Organizer (VT/O)—a two-page template that helps you create a clear vision by answering eight key questions:
What are our Core Values? These define your organization’s identity and non-negotiable principles.
What is our Core Focus? This is a clear statement of your purpose, passion, and what sets you apart from similar organizations.
What is our 10-Year Target? A simple, specific statement of what you aim to achieve in the next 10 years.
What is our Marketing Strategy? Identify your ideal customers, three unique offerings, your proven process for winning customers, and your guarantee to them.
What is our 3-Year Picture? Set measurable 3-year goals for revenue, profit, and other key metrics, along with a description of what your organization should look like to reach those goals.
What is our 1-Year Plan? Define specific one-year targets for revenue, profit, and other metrics, and set of 1-year goals that must be achieved to move toward the 3-year picture.
What are our Quarterly Rocks? Set 90-day goals, each assigned to a team member, that drive progress toward your 1-year plan.
What are our Issues? List current challenges and problems that need to be addressed to achieve your stated goals.
By clearly answering these eight questions, you create a vision and a path that can be shared with your team, ensuring everyone works together toward the same outcome. Having a clear picture of where you’re going and how to get there is crucial for success.
