"You Can Have Whatever You Want"

I was in a Granddaddy mood and had my 7-year-old grandson in the toy aisle. “Darren, you can have whatever you want. You just tell Granddaddy and I’ll get it for you.”
Darren’s skepticism kicked in. It wasn’t Christmas, and it wasn’t his birthday. He looked up at me a bit confused. “I can have whatever I want?” He was eyeing a rather expensive Lego castle. “Can I get two smaller toys instead of this big one?”
He was negotiating in his little head. Granddaddy might do two small toys. That seems reasonable. Maybe he should go for that.
“Darren, you can have whatever you want. You just pick it out, and I will get it.” I was enjoying the process as he second-guessed his compromised choice. He finally settled on a couple of smaller toys and was happy to have them.
What Darren did not understand is that I was prepared that day to buy him pretty much anything he wanted. I would have bought the expensive castle and the smaller toys and even something else. I just happened to be having one of those Granddaddy seizures. What was interesting is that he could not accept the fullness of the offer. He ended up getting much less than what he could have had, all based on his own limiting beliefs.
My question for you:” How might your beliefs be limiting your possibilities?”
