Seriously, fun IS a choice. If you’re not having fun in your business and in your life, then you are not choosing to have it.
Taking full responsibility is choosing my response. I have an ability to respond to my circumstances and environment. Fun is something I can always choose. It is akin to optimism, and humor, and lightheartedness. Fun opens me up to possibility and learning from my situation.
You may protest. You may be thinking that not everything in life and business is fun. Not everything should be taken optimistically and with a light heart. I understand your struggle. Let’s talk cancer.
Cancer is a nasty devastating disease. Do you find it a bit strange to bring up cancer in an article about fun?
Let’s talk about Joy. Joy is a dear friend in my church who reflects her name. Joy tells her story, that cancer is the best thing that ever happened to her. She even lost her ability to see for a number of days of treatment. Cancer got her attention, and got her re-engaged with her Lord and other people. Joy says that cancer brought her to life.
Joy is one of the most fun people I’ve ever met. Cancer provided a context for her to learn to have fun again. She now smiles. She cares deeply. She loves people. She is currently cancer free and chooses to live a full life full of fun. That choice began in the midst of cancer. When she meets suffering people, she brings them a smile, and a laugh, along with tears of compassion and a listening ear.
Don’t misunderstand my point. All of Joy’s pain and suffering with cancer was not fun. But fun engagement with others was the ultimate product because by the grace of God Joy made some choices. She didn’t just get “through” her cancer, she used it and took fun and value “from” it.
So how about you? Are you facing some challenges and ready to create some fun? Call me up, and let’s get started!!!
