Are You a Trustworthy Leader?

    

Here are several simple questions that will help you answer the question, “Am I a trustworthy leader?”  

·        Can those who are under your supervision and direction trust you?

·        Do your actions and your words indicate to them that they can rely on you?

·        Do you keep all your commitments?

·        Do you provide the necessary communication?

·        Do you honor people in your speech, even when they are not present?

·        Do you listen, not just to reply, but to understand?

·        Do you proactively deal with problems?

·        Do you show up on time at scheduled meetings and calls?

·        Do you respond quickly to inquiries and requests?

·        Do you speak truthfully and transparently, even when it is not pleasant?

·        Do you show favoritism or bias in your decisions and judgments?

·        Are you present when it matters?

·        Do you sincerely care for the future and wellbeing of those you lead?

·        Do you hold fast to core values without compromise?

·        Do you treat people with dignity and respect?

·        Do you place other’s needs before your own wants and desires?

·        Do you do what is right, even when no one is watching?

     Being a trustworthy leader is challenging.  It is not for the faint of heart.  It is about service above self.  And for those who have the calling and the passion to lead, they joyfully accept the responsibility and step up to the high standard of integrity.  No leader is perfect.  That is why humility is key to being a trustworthy leader…..one who recognizes what is required, and readily admits their shortcomings, and makes it right.
