What Would You Do if You Had to Succeed?

If you had to succeed, what would you do? It is a great coaching question. If you are in a burning house, and your child is in the next room, what would you do? If someone was holding your head under water, how would you respond?

People rarely choose to move beyond a level of comfort. Have you ever wondered why you “plateau” financially, get to a certain weight and can’t seem to lose any more, and even start to get bored?

It is the fundamental law of inertia, that bodies at rest stay at rest. The natural tendency of nature is to stabilize and then slowly decline. To move beyond the status quo, there must be exerted force. This creates disruption. When the thermostat is raised, there is a demand for the system to respond. Do you feel the stress? Are you getting it? The situation will remain the same and deteriorate until you take action.

If you want to improve your relationships, skills, health, business, mental development, and personal growth, it requires the exertion of sustained effort toward the desired change. It could even be a choice to stop and let something occur by removing your resistance. Busy overwhelmed people can move forward faster if they will slow down and think. It is being still and stepping back until you see what is really happening, and then proactively creating a leveraged, focused response. Sometimes that response is a simple NO to what is currently going on to open the space and schedule for something new and different.

It is a breaking; breaking with, breaking apart, breaking down; breaking away from the familiar. It is an interruption of existing habit. It is venturing into an unknown territory and experimenting with the unfamiliar. It can be scary, but it is certainly exciting. It is choosing to be playful, have some fun, and take some risk.

Most people will only change when life brings them a tragedy. A sickness. The death of a loved one. A financial loss. A career change. A broken relationship. You don’t have to wait for difficulty to act differently. You can create change based on who you want to be, what you want to do, and what you want to have. It is the power of choice. Choose something new today and celebrate. It’s the joy of fully living life.
