Intentional Procrastination

Intentional procrastination? At first glance, it seems like a contradiction. It’s not.

To procrastinate simply means to put off or delay. Intentional means planned or purposeful. Put them together and you have a powerful concept…. purposeful delay: Intentionally putting something off.

Conscious choice is the key to effectively using this tool. Passively avoiding problems is a recipe for things to get worse. But since most of us have competing priorities, intentionally choosing to delay an action can be quite productive. You make good use of the beautiful powerful word “NO”.

Even though people know they cannot do everything now, they still try. They are the proverbial squirrel on caffeine. Run, run, run; bounce, bounce, bounce; go dog go.

Stop the madness!

I grant you the gift of intentional procrastination. Choose what is most important for today, do it, and leave the rest for another time!

It is a simple choice to say YES a few things today, and NO to everything else. Can you be OK with that? Sure, you can. In fact, through practice you will learn to love it!

Embrace it. Choose to do a couple of things really well today. Be present. Be engaged. Squeeze every last drop from a single project. Savor it. Taste it. Extract all that you want, and then, once complete, move to the next moment, conversation, project, activity, and give it your all. One thing at a time, sweet Jesus!!!

The hormone cortisol is produced by stressful thought and is addictive. It can literally make you sick and kill you. Learn to procrastinate creatively and intentionally without guilt. Your body will thank you. Your family will thank you. It’s simply about having clear priorities and then choosing.

Complete one or two tasks each day aligned with your core values and purpose, and you will have amazing success. Take a fresh look at procrastination and learn how to use it. Boldly saying no for now creates space for you to create an amazing day and an amazing life.
